Letterboxing in the Willimantic River Watershed
Letterboxing can be a great family outing. Play detective and follow clues to boxes hidden at local parks or landmarks.
Instructions and clues to these boxes can be found at Letterboxing North America's web site. At this site, the clues are grouped by town. Look for the "titles" listed below and print out the clues to take with you. Example: In the Mansfield list is a letterbox titled "Sit and Relax".
Take a Letterbox Trip Down the Willimantic River
Start at a letterbox in Mansfield named "Merrow Park". Then head south on Route 32 and stop at Thompson's Store for a sandwich while you search for the "Mansfield Depot" boxes. Then on to the "Eagleville Dam" and "Eagleville Preserve" boxes. In Willimantic, look for the "Thread City Crossing," " Thread City Mills," and "Willimantic Foot Bridge" boxes.
Other Letterboxes in the Watershed
Two boxes are sponsored by the DEP: "Nye-Holman State Forest" in Tolland and "Nathan Hale State Forest" in Coventry.
Along the Hop River State Park Trail, you can find 'Hop River Trail West" in Andover and "Hop River Trail West" in Columbia.
More letterboxes are on the way. Stay tuned!
